APRIL 2007 Issue
As the 2006-2007 Rodeo Season is winding down, things here at North Texas are picking up! Preparing for the Finals is serious business. With all the work that goes into Finals preparation, it's a wonder any of us get any sleep!

In checking out the standings, competition is getting a little tight too! These last few rodeos can make a big difference on who is going to the Finals and who will take first place in a couple of events as well. Good luck to all our contestants!

We, the Board of Directors of North Texas High School Rodeo Association, as well as the Public Relations Committee would like to send out a personal thank you to all the sponsors, parents, contract help, members, and volunteers in general for making this Rodeo Season one of the best in North Texas history. Your continued support and dedication to this association has made NTHSRA  the success it is today!
Thank you!

The Student Board of Directors is planning feverishly for the Black and Blue Rodeo, which will be held on May 19, 2007. If you are new to NTHSRA and are not sure what a Black and Blue Rodeo is, let us inform you. This is a rodeo hosted by the Student Board and Event Directors for non-North Texas members, with all proceeds going towards scholarships.

The event begins with a Team Roping open to everyone followed by a rodeo where the Judges, Arena Director and even the Announcers are our Student Board of Directors and Event Directors (of course with a little help from timers, rodeo secretaries, adult Board of Directors, and other adult volunteers).  All of the standard rodeo events will take place, along with a few extra events, making this a day to enjoy with family and friends alike!

The Student Board is in need of donations for the concession stand. Water has been graciously donated, but we are still in need of drinks and other food items and such to run a concession stand. They are asking for donations from each club in support of the concession stand as well as items for the Silent Auction.  Click on the Black & Blue link to find to find a list of items needed to complete our concession stand.  Please note that there is also a list of contacts if you are interested in volunteering or have some much needed items for our Silent Auction as well. There is no donation too big or too small. An investment in our future is a wise investment!

There will also be an auction for our Queens' Picnic Baskets right after the Rough Stock Events!

We have noticed that a lot of the Finals Contestants did not, for whatever reason, have their picture taken for the Finals Program. The Public Relations Committee, along with Joe Myers, has set up a make-up day. Saturday, April 28, 2007 from 6:30 pm until the beginning of Barrels, Joe Myers will be taking pictures for the Finals program.

Please note that if you had your picture taken on April 10 or April 11, this does not apply to you. If you came in and saw Joe Myers after that date and had your picture taken up against a wall, or have not had your picture taken at all, this does apply to you. The pictures that were taken of individuals during a rodeo this past weekend will not be used for the Finals Program and you will need to have a picture taken with the proper back drop! This would also be an opportunity for the contract help who missed out on their pictures to have them taken as well. If you have any questions, please contact Kay Sanderson at (817) 480-8685.

The Public Relations Committee is searching for individuals/members to sing, play, or sign the National Anthem at the Finals Rodeo on May 31, 2007 through June 2, 2007. If you play an instrument, sing or know ASL and would like to audition, please contact Kay Sanderson to set up a time for an audition.

If you have noticed on our web page, there is a Cowkid Rodeo listed. NTHSRA has teamed up with the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame to help educate young cowboys and cowgirls on the sport of rodeo! Every Saturday at High Noon there is a Cowkid Rodeo at the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in the historical Stockyards.

We are in need of at least 10 NTHSRA members each Saturday from 11:45 am - 2:00 pm to assist. There is so much fun and excitement in showing these young boys and girls how to rope and ride (at least pretend to rope and ride)! This is also a great opportunity to gather up some community service hours. (This stuff looks great on a college resume!!!)

Because of our efforts, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is purchasing a saddle for the Finals this year. Their goal is to grow with NTHSRA. The hope that as this takes off so will their sponsor opportunities to NTHSRA with possible scholarships in the future.

If you are interested in giving back a little of what you love so much (rodeo), then come join us this Saturday, or any Saturday. If you have questions, please contact Tammy Blakely or Kay Sanderson or go to our web page.

We wanted to remind you that NTHSRA is still planning on giving a Truck away at the Finals this year. If you are in need of a set of rules regarding the Truck Giveaway, please check at the table by the sponsor's boxes or click on the Truck Giveaway link here.

This year, NTHSRA is offering advertisement on the Truck. Click on the Truck Sponsorship link to find the information regarding the purchase of an ad. We are offering ads from $1.00 per square inch to a fair price for an entire section. Please contact the Truck Committee if you have any questions.

Oh, just a quick reminder....there are still a few teams who have not turned in their gate money to the NTHSRA Truck Fund, as it was designated. As our 2006-2007 Season is winding down, we would like to ask you to please hurry up and do so. That money was collected at the gate with the intent to give to the Truck Fund and those people who paid that additional dollar at the gate gave it in good faith that you would turn it in as such!
Thank you for your cooperation!

I would like to take this time to personally thank a few people who make things happen around NTHSRA.
  • The Adult and Student Board of Directors
  • All those who served with the Board on Committees

Each and every one of you has given countless hours to an association that believes in kids........
For this, I believe in you!

For all the times that it didn't seem to work, but you kept at it anyway. Thank you.
For all the times spent on something that very few even recognized what was done. Thank you.
For all those times you wiped a tear, or held one back, dug into your pocket silently to make a difference, and for all those times when it seemed that it just wasn't enough.
I truly do Thank You!

Great people have entered through our gates, but no greater is the person who comes to give unselfishly from their hearts!
