JANUARY 2007 Issue
The North Texas High School Rodeo Association is proud to welcome you back to what we hope will be an exciting second half of our 2006-2007 Season. So much has happened during the first half of our season and we are just busting at the seams in anticipation of what's to come! So saddle up and join us for what we hope will be an exciting ride!

For those of you who are not aware, Andrea Peterson has resigned as the 2006-2007 Miss NTHSRA. As much as we hate to see her leave, we are excited and very proud to now have Miss Jessica McDowell represent us. We are confident that Jessica will do nothing but shine as our new Miss NTHSRA, and are already proud of the accomplishments that she has had in such a short period of time. Jessica will be reporting on her activities in each of our Newsletters. It's great to have you with us, Jess!

WHAT'S MISSING?
I'll tell you what's missing! As of this week, there are still six (6) teams who hosted rodeos before the winter break who have
NOT turned in the extra dollar per person, that they DID collect at the gate, to NTHSRA. Remember, this extra dollar collected per person is to be placed in a Special Account. This money is to be designated for the Truck!

Speaking of the Truck! During the December Board Meeting, the Truck Committee submitted the guidelines on which the Truck (if we are able to give one away) will be given away. A copy of the rules for the Truck Giveaway and a Layout for the drawing has been placed in the sponsor's boxes for all to see. We have also posted the information on the board outside of the building and on the bulletin board.

The NTHSRA Board of Directors and Student Board have been planning and preparing for the Finals. They have been working hard at obtaining bids for jackets, buckles and saddles. These are not easy tasks. Nor is it cheap!

We are asking early this year for your help. Usually we wait until the Spring General Membership Meeting to call upon our Sponsors and Contract help but this year we feel that waiting until the last minute is not in the best interest of NTHSRA. With that in mind, we are asking for help in selling these saddles and buckles.

Last year only a handful of buckles were donated and fewer saddles. Therefore, NTHSRA had to absorb the cost of the Finals saddles and remaining buckles. This year we have set a goal to have every saddle donated as well as all of the buckles.

If you are interested in or possibly know someone who might be interested in donating a saddle or buckles toward the Finals, please contact our NTHSRA Office or a Board of Director.

**Please Note: Les Brock has issued a challenge to everyone. He has set his sights on having five (5) saddles donated and challenges anyone to meet or exceed him!
I've sold one!
The race is on!

Queens' Corner

Hey Ya'll...Here is an update on my activities. . . . On Thursday, the eleventh, I was a Greeter at the Texas Cowboys Hall of Fame 2007 Induction Ceremony. I was pleased to meet many celebrities like Bob Tallmon and Pam Minick. The inductees included Craig Cameron, Tad Lucas, Louis M. Pearce Jr., JW Stoker, Ed Knocke, and Brett Hoffman. I had a great time helping by showing the guests where their tables were and directing them to where the Buffet line and Silent Auctions tables were. This past Saturday, I had intended to ride in the Fort Worth Stock Show Parade, but due to the weather, the parade was canceled for the fourth time in over one hundred years. On Friday, the nineteenth, I am going to be crowned as Miss NTHSRA during the Lake Dallas Rodeo! I have planned to be at Cook Children's PICU on Wednesday, the twenty-fourth, where I will be reading to the patients and spending time with them, coloring and sharing the wonderful sport of rodeo! I am going to be riding in the Grand Entry of the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo on January 27,2007 during the 10:00 am performance. I have made arrangements for everyone who is 16 years or older and a member of NTHSRA to be able to ride in the Grand Entry as well. Come and meet me at Fairington Field for breakfast at 8:00 am. From there we can walk to the staging area for the Grand Entry. If you are interested in riding in the Forth Worth Stock Show Rodeo Grand Entry, please come and see me and I will give you a release form, as it is required, as well as current coggins and a vet check (within the past 30 days). I would like to see everyone ride in the Grand Entry and to show how great NTHSRA really is!

Ropes and Reins it's a Rodeo Thing!
Jessica McDowell
Miss NTHSRA
