| We welcome you to enjoy our first
edition of The
NTHSRA Pony Express, a newsletter for those in the
know. This newsletter is designed to keep everyone informed on all that
is going on within NTHSRA and hopefully encourage more if not all of
our members, sponsors, contract help, and parents alike to become more
active within our association. The more you know, the more we can grow!
* * * * * My name is Jarrell Whitfill, and in case you were not aware, I am the President of North Texas High School Rodeo Association. I wanted to thank each and every one of you along with those people behind the scenes at North Texas in making the start of this 2006-2007 season a success! We have hit a few bumps in the road, but through patience and determination, we are smoothing out the path for all. In the past few months, the committees have been working hard setting up and holding clinics for our members. I would like to personally thank these committees for their hard work. I would also like to thank Doyle Brown for the work that his Building and Arena Committee have been doing. We are still a long ways away from where we need to be, but because of Mr. Brown and a handful of dedicated others, we are at least a little closer than we were—Thank you again. I would like to give a special “Thank You” to our County Commissioner, J.D. Johnson and his continued support of North Texas High School Rodeo Association. * * * * * The Public Relations Committee has been hard at work planning and preparing not only this newsletter, but on ways to promote not only the sport of High School Rodeo, but NTHSRA in general. We are in the process of preparing “Cowboy Cooking 101”. This is a cookbook comprised of recipes that we have collected from everyone within NTHSRA. If you have a favorite recipe that you would like to share, please place it in the “mailbox” at NTHSRA by the sponsor boxes. We are asking each team to submit a minimum of 20 recipes. We are also asking our contract help to submit their recipes as well. Our goal is to have this book ready to sell before Christmas. That is why we are asking that you have those recipes in by November 19, 2006. T-SHIRTS, T-SHIRTS, T-SHIRTS!!!!! The Public Relations Committee, along with the Student Board, has come up with the design for our 2006-2007 NTHSRA shirts. We will be offering hooded sweatshirts along with T-shirts. We are planning on taking orders on other items that will be exclusively NTHSRA! All items will be available just in time for Christmas! We want to know if you’re “In The Know”? Does your local paper include articles regarding your rodeo accomplishments? If they do, please forward a copy to the Public Relations Committee so we can place it on the bulletin board by the sponsor boxes. Place your clippings in an envelope, Attn: Public Relations Committee, in the NTHSRA box. When You Shine, We Shine! * * * * * We would like to thank the following committees for their successful clinics to help our members build their skills: Rough Stock, Steers, Calves, Barrels, and Poles. Thank you to those committees as well as those behind the scenes who make each clinic a success. When we are able to give the necessary tools to not only make our participants better contestants, but to keep them safe, then we are successful ourselves! If you event has not had a clinic, be patient; they are planning one soon! If you have any questions, please contact the committees listed on page 8 of your By-Laws and Rulebook. * * * * * HEY COWGIRLS!!!! Have your boots kept your toes from breathing a little bit? Are your dogs just plain tired? The Queens Committee would like to know if you are interested in having a “Pampered Piggy Party”? We are in the woks of planning a “Girl’s Night Out” for all NTHSRA FEMALE MEMBERS ONLY!!! Please contact Kay Sanderson at (817)480-8685 if you are interested in participating in a fun-filled evening of girl stuff, not to mention a little pampering too!!!! * * * * * It’s Parade Time!!!! Yes, NTHSRA is entered again this year for the “Parade of Lights”. Our very own Miss NTHSRA Andrea Peterson would like you to come and join her Friday, November 24, 2006 in downtown Fort Worth to participate in a magical parade of lights! For details and to RSVP a spot, please contact Natalie Berglund at (817)689-4614 or Kay Sanderson at (817)480-8685. * * * * * HEAR YE! HEAR YE! NTHSRA will be hosting their Fall General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in the North Texas Building. We would like to encourage everyone who is a part of NTHSRA to attend! Please contact the office or check our NT website for more details! * * * * * Sponsors, if you have not filled out your Sponsor Information form or have filled it out and have not returned it back to the NT office, please do so. If you are in need of a Sponsor Information form, please see the NTHSRA office or Kay Sanderson. On that note, I would like to see if we could possible acquire the e-mail addresses for everyone here within NTHSRA. If you are a sponsor, I would like to ask you to gather and forward your member’ e-mail addresses to me. I would like to ask the Contract Help to please do the same. This is an easy means of communication, and another way of keeping everyone in the know! Please submit your e-mail addresses to the NTHSRA box, Attn: Kay Sanderson. * * * * * The North Texas Office would like to remind all contestants and sponsors to please follow the rules on MTOs and VTOs. Please read Chapter Thirteen, page 33, Section One: MOT, VTO, so everyone will understand and comply with this rule. Please note “A” that states that MTOs and VTOs are taken on a week-to-week basis. This means that every week you must submit your MTO, VTO, even if it is the same note requesting several weeks off. * * * * * We would like to remind everyone that during Bull Riding there are certain rules that apply. This is especially true regarding those within the arena and behind the chutes. Please refer to your rulebook page 26, Section Two: Arena Conduct, and page 47, number 8 of Bull Riding for more details. With the incredible bulls our stock contractors have been providing this year, following these rules are a must in keeping everyone safe, including our bull riders and bull fighters!!! * * * * * I would like to thank the following people in helping me prepare our first newsletter…Stevi Roubion, Jessica McDowell, Tammy Blakely, Sandra Roubion, and Tommy Sanderson. Without their help, this would not have been possible… Kay Sanderson NTHSRA Board Secretary/Public Relations Chair |
